A paper in PLoS Genetics from Gary Ruvkun's lab at Harvard and Mass General details a study of C. elegans looking for evolutionarily conserved elements that control aging. A screen of 2,700 genes turned up 64 genes that, when inactivated, extend the organism's life. According to the paper, these "candidate lifespan regulators are highly conserved from yeast to humans."
