Male and female faculty members in engineering, math, and the sciences have "comparable opportunities" though women make up a smaller part of the applicant pool, face salary inequity, and less success in promotion and tenure, says a new report from the National Research Council. The New York Times also points to a new study of high school students in PNAS that found that "U.S. girls have now reached parity with boys" in mathematics.
