Clinical Center Opportunities

The US National Institutes of Health has announced a number of projects in which extramural investigators can conduct research at the agency's Clinical Center.

Through these three-year renewable awards, the outside researchers will collaborate with government scientists. "This initiative will provide top scientists outside NIH the opportunity to utilize the sizable resources of our clinical center," NIH Director Francis Collins says in a statement. "The collaborative process they undertake with researchers here on campus will set a framework for important biomedical discoveries and needed treatments."

These new projects include a clinical trial examining the genetics of prostate cancer with the goal of being able to better prevent or treat the disease, a clinical trial of a new drug treatment for childhood leukemia, and a drug trial examining a new treatment for Nieman Pick C.

Applications for the next round of awards are due next week, NIH notes.
