Francis Eberle is no longer the executive director of the National Science Teachers Association, reports ScienceInsider, adding that the move "caught science educators by surprise." Eberle, who was a secondary school science teacher, took the lead at NSTA in 2008. Gerald Wheeler, who retired from leading the group in 2008, has returned to serve as its interim director. "The board decided to make a change in the association's leadership," says Patricia Simmons, NSTA president. Simmons adds that the vote to remove Eberle by the governing board was a "personnel decision," and tells ScienceInsider that she "would rather not discuss the reasons."
