Biotech as Enabler

Biotechnology will be the "core enabling technology of the 21st century in the way the microchip has become in the latter part of the 20th century," says David Finegold, the dean of Rutgers University's School of Management and Labor Relations in this US News & World Report article. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, bioinformatics is a particularly sunny area of biotech that has a potential for job growth. Otto Folkerts, the associate director of technology development at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute adds, "As these new technologies and information become available, there's going to be a need for people who are very sophisticated."
