Another Novel Application

Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine used a Solexa Genome Analyzer and the model bacterium Bacillus subtilis to test how whole genome sequencing can be used to compare different laboratory strains and develop future genetic lab studies. In work published last week in PLoS Genetics, they sequenced multiple related laboratory strains of B. subtilis and different isolates of each strain, and were able to map a series of suppressor mutations.
