US President Barack Obama signed Friday a $1.1 trillion spending bill that will keep the federal government funded through September, the Associated Press reports.
"Across the board, our government is going to be operating without, hopefully, too many glitches over the next year," Obama said at the bill signing.
The bill includes $29.9 billion for the National Institutes of Health, a 3.5 percent increase; $7.17 billion for the National Science Foundation, a 4.2 percent increase; and $5.07 billion for the Department of Energy's Office of Science, a 9.7 percent increase. ScienceInsider noted last week that physical science agencies received the biggest percentage increases to their budgets.
