Thomas Goralski joins Durham, NC-based Expression Analysis, an Affymetrix-platform microarray services provider, as the company’s laboratory director. Goralski joins the company after serving as director of production biology at Perlegen Sciences. Previously, Goralski was employed in DNA sequencing and microarray operations at Incyte Genomics. He holds a PhD in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a BS in biology from the University of Connecticut, Storrs.
Christopher Schnittker joins Princeton, NJ-based Cytogen as vice president and CFO. Previously, Schnittker was CFO for Genaera. He was also director of finance and controller at GSI Commerce and has held positions at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, and Price Waterhouse. Schnittker is a certified public accountant.
Claude Benchimol joins Invitrogen as senior vice president of research and development, a new position, and John Carrino moves from vice president of R&D to become chief scientist. Previously, Benchimol was vice president and general manager of global technology for the information technologies division of GE Medical Systems. Benchimol holds a master’s degree in engineering from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications in France, as well as a master’s and doctorate degree in system science from the University of California at Los Angeles. Carrino holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from Northwestern University, and previously held R&D leadership roles at both Nanogen and Abbott Laboratories.
Yoichi Nishinakamura joins Otsuka Maryland Research Institute as chairman, CEO, president, and COO of Japan’s Otsuka Pharmaceutical’s US clinical research and development subsidiary. Nishinakamura holds a BS in applied microbio-logical research in agricultural chemistry from Kagoshima University of Japan.
Klaus Dembowsky joins Ingenium Pharmaceuticals of Munich, Germany, as vice president of drug discovery. Dembowsky previously was manger of the Bayer-Millennium collaboration for drug target discovery. Prior to Bayer, Dembowsky was associate professor of physiology at the University of Heidelberg. Dembowsky holds a PhD and an MD from the University of Heidelberg.
