SciGene, Illumina

Premium

Sunnyvale, Calif-based SciGene this week introduced the Series 700 microarray hybridization ovens and rotators for use with either Affymetrix or Agilent products. The product accommodates up to 48 Affymetrix GeneChips or 20 Agilent SureHyb chambers using specially designed rotators. A general-purpose rotator is also available for mixing and heating nearly any style hybridization chamber. Pricing details were not provided.

The Model 777, which provides from 2 to 70 revolutions per minute, may also be used for gentle washing of glass and membrane microarrays under controlled temperature using a special designed accessory. The Model 700 provides rotational speeds of 2-20 RPM.

Illumina last week began shipping the BeadStation 500G, a system for performing DNA analysis using the company’s SNP genotyping technology. The instrument can analyze samples on either of two bead-based Illumina array platforms: the 16-sample Sentrix BeadChip and the 96-sample Array Matrix. Pricing for the BeadStation 500G begins at approximately $250,000. A software upgrade allows the unit to be upgraded to a BeadStation 500GX to enable gene expression profiling.
