Pierre Chretien of Montreal was named director of Canada marketing and business development for the company Pure Protein. Previously, Chretien was chief technical officer for SignalGene.
Michael Berens, a researcher at Arizona’s Translational Genomics Research Institute, has become CEO of the International Genomics Consortium, according to an IGC announcement. Berens, a former researcher at the Barrow Neurological Institute, will keep his position as senior investigator at the Translational Genomics Research Institute in order to be able to pursue federally funded research. Further, the Phoenix, Ariz.-based consortium named Robert Penny as chief medical officer, Michael Bittner as chief research officer, and Michael Rodgers as chief financial officer. In addition, Max Poll, president and CEO at Scottsdale Healthcare, was elected to the IGC’s board.
Aclara Biosciences has appointed Thomas Klopack as CEO. Klopack was COO of Aurora Biosciences from 1998 until 2002. He fills an opening created when CEO Joseph Limber left last December, and Ed Hurwitz, a board member who was appointed interim CEO at the time, then stepped down Feb. 21. Klopack holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.
