Peter Loescher, Andrew Carr, Peter Ehrenheim, William Castell, Richard Michelmore, Bruce Barclay

Peter Loescher has been promoted to chief operating officer for Amersham and will continue to lead Amersham Health. Loescher joined the company in December 2002 as president of Amersham Health. Andrew Carr, president of Amersham’s discovery systems unit, and Peter Ehrenheim, president of protein separations, will report to Loescher, who will report to William Castell, Amersham’s CEO. Castell will head the new division of General Electric upon the completion of the company’s pending acquisition of Amersham, which was announced earlier this year and is pending regulatory approval. Previously, Loescher was chairman and chief executive officer of Aventis Pharma in Japan.


Richard Michelmore, a professor of genetics at the University of California, Davis, has been named founding director of the UC Davis Genome Center. Michelmore will oversee the hiring of 15 new faculty members in genomics and bioinformatics, as well as the final stages of constructing and equipping the Genome Center. Michelmore holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK. He joined the UC Davis faculty in 1982.


Bruce Barclay joins Eden Prairie, Minn.-based SurModics as president and chief operating officer. Barclay has been president and CEO of Vascular Architects of San Jose, Calif., since 2000. Before that, he was a senior vice president at Guidant. He holds bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry from Purdue University, and a law degree from Indiana University.
