Susan Desmond-Hellmann will not stand for re-election to Affymetrix's board of directors at the company's annual stockholders meeting this June. According to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Desmond-Hellman wants to focus more time on her new job as chancellor of the University of California, San Francisco.

Eric Topol, who is chief academic officer of Scripps Health and director of Scripps Translational Science Institute, has been named the inaugural chair of the Gary and Mary West Chair of Innovative Medicine at Scripps Health. The position was created through a $5 million endowment from the foundation. Topol also has been appointed to the board of directors of the West Wireless Health Institute.
