23andMe has hired Sarah Imbach to take over the role of chief operating officer and Larry Tesler to be a product fellow. Imbach formerly was vice president of revenue and customer operations, and she previously was a senior VP of customer service operations and fraud at PayPal.

President-elect Barack Obama has selected Broad Institute Founding Director Eric Lander and former NIH Director Harold Varmus to serve as co-chairs for the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
The two appointees were named along with two other high-ranking members of Obama’s science and technology team.
John Holdren, the director of the Program on Science, Technology, and Public Policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, has agreed to serve as assistant to the president for science and technology and to be director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Holdren also is a former president and chairman of the board of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Obama also nominated Jane Lubchenco to serve as administrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Lubchenco is a past-president of the International Council for Science and a former president of AAAS.

Cellular Dynamics International has added three new faces to its executive team, naming Chris Kendrick-Parker as chief commercial officer; Emile Nuwaysir as chief operating officer; and David Snyder as chief financial officer.
Kendrick-Parker formerly was vice president of global pharmaceutical business at Affymetrix, and he was involved in drug discovery at Amersham Pharmacia. Nuwaysir was senior VP of program management and business development and he was chief technology officer at Roche NimbleGen, and a manager at NimbleGen Systems prior to the company’s acquisition by Roche. He also served as a researcher at the National Human Genome Research Institute and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, where he helped to establish the National Center for Toxicogenomics. Snyder was site VP and chief financial officer for Roche NimbleGen, and he helped lead NimbleGen through its initial public offering.
