Mansoor Mohammed, James Glover, James Glynn, Donald Grimm, Kreatech Biotechnology, Affymetrix

People in the News

Mansoor Mohammed has joined Combimatrix Molecular Diagnostics as its chief scientific officer and a member of its board of directors, CMDX said this week.

He most recently served as director of advanced technologies at Quest Diagnostics. Prior to working at Quest, Mohammed directed scientific R&D at Spectral Genomics.

Mohammed holds PhDs in molecular immunology and genetics from the University of Guelph in Ontario.

James Glover is retiring from Beckman Coulter as senior vice president and chief financial officer, the company announced last week.

The company has started a search to replace him.

James Glynn is retiring from Invitrogen's board on April 21, the company said last week.

Glynn has served the company for almost 10 years and retires as chief executive emeritus.

Invitrogen said that there will be only nine directors after Glynn's departure.

Donald Grimm was named a director of High Throughput Genomics, the array-based gene-expression company said last week.

Grimm is a partner at Hamilton BioVentures. He has served on the boards of Aegis Therapeutics, Angstrom Pharmaceuticals, CellzDirect, and Invitrogen. He has held managerial positions at Eli Lilly and served as president and CEO of Hybritech.

New Product Watch

Kreatech Biotechnology this week launched its MiRacULS miRNA Isolation and Labeling Kit for small RNA/miRNA analysis applications and miRNA isolation and labeling.

According to Kreatech, the miRacULS miRNA isolation and labeling kit enables users to isolate and label miRNAs as well as siRNAs. A 30 minute column-based isolation is followed by a one-step, 15 minute, direct labeling step without the need for enzymes, the company said.

Kreatech last week expanded its ULS RNA labeling kits with biotin for Affymetrix GeneChip users and gene expression applications.

The company said that all of its RNA biotin labeling kits will be in a format that includes streptavidin phycoerythrin, used detecting biotin-labeled samples on Affymetrix GeneChips.

Affymetrix said earlier this month that its GeneChip Citrus Genome Array is now available.

The array was created through the Affymetrix GeneChip Consortia Program and contains 30,171 probe sets representing up to 33,879 citrus transcripts based on EST sequences obtained from several citrus species and citrus hybrids.
