Larry Heaton II was named president, CEO and director of Curon Medical of Sunnyvale, Calif. Heaton occupied the same positions for Response Genetics, an applied genomics startup conducting clinical trial gene expression services for the pharmaceutical industry. Previously, Heaton worked for United States Surgical in operations, sales, and marketing positions leading to his appointment as president and COO.

Jeffrey Williams has been named executive vice president and general manager for the new Ambion RNA diagnostics division of Ambion of Austin, Texas. Previously, Williams was vice president and US site manager for Roche Diagnostics.

The Harvard Clinical Research Institute has hired Ralph D’Agostino as executive director of data management and biostatistics and Joseph Massaro as managing director of data management and biostatistics. D’Agostino is the director of the statistics and consulting unit and executive director of the MA/PhD program in biostatistics at Boston University. Massaro was director of statistical operations for Quintiles of Cambridge, Mass..

Alan Blatecky, director of the National Science Foundation’s Middleware Initiative, has joined the San Diego Supercomputer Center as executive director.

John Maraganore has been named president and CEO of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals of Cambridge, Mass. Maraganore was senior vice president of strategic product developmentfor Millennium Pharmaceuticals.
