Jay Flatley, Jim Schlater, Charles Ted Bauer, William Sharp


Jay Flatley and Jim Schlater have joined the board of directors of GenVault, the San Diego-based biosample management company said last week. Flatley is president and CEO of Illumina. Prior to that, he was president and CEO of Molecular Dynamics. Schlater is founder and chairman of the board of directors of Cell Biosciences. He is also a co-founder of Applied Biosystems, and he was the first president and CEO of Molecular Dynamics.

Charles “Ted” Bauer of Houston, co-founder of the mutual fund company AIM Management Group, died Monday at 85. A graduate of Harvard College in 1942, and the holder of an MBA from New York University, Bauer helped fund the Bauer Laboratory and Bauer Center for Genomics Research at Harvard.

William Sharp joins Cellomics of Pittsburgh as vice president of business development. Previously, Sharp held the same position with Gentra Systems. Prior to that, he managed Invitrogen’s molecular biology business, and held posts at Heraeus Instruments and at Baxter Healthcare
