Insightful Licenses Affymetrix’s APIs
Insightful last week said that it has licensed the Affymetrix application programming interfaces for use in its S+ArrayAnalyzer software for the statistical analysis of microarray data. It will be available in December.
The incorporation of the Affy APIs makes S+ArrayAnalyzer fully compatible with all Affymetrix microarray systems, Insightful said, including the new GeneChip Operating Software (GCOS) output and the entire installed base of Affymetrix instruments and scanners.
Protein Forest Closes $19M Series A
Proteomics separations start-up Protein Forest last week announced the closing of a $19 million Series A financing led by S.R. One, Boston Millennia Partners, IDG Venture, and Novo A/S.
The Watertown, Mass.-based company’s technology consists of a suite of products centered around the ProteomeChip that the company claims can separate and image all proteins in a biological sample in one hour or less, with high sensitivity, reproducibility, and accuracy. The company is currently led by CEO Russell Garlick, former vice president of R&D at PerkinElmer.
Sionex Raises $12.8M in Series B Financing
Sionex, which is commercializing chemical sensor chips for biopharmaceutical and other applications, raised $12.8 million in a Series B round of funding, the company said last week.
The funding was led by Morgenthaler Ventures, with additional funds from Rho Ventures and Navigator Technology Ventures, which are existing investors in the Waltham, Mass., company.
Mayo Foundation to Purchase Tm Biosciences’ Genetic Tests
The Mayo Foundation has agreed to purchase Tm Bioscience’s line of genetic tests under a five-year “master purchase” agreement, the company said last week.
Under the agreement, Mayo will buy Tm’s Tag-It Mutation Detection Kit for the cystic fibrosis gene CFTR, and will be able to buy additional tests from Tm as they are commercialized.
Mayo’s Medical Laboratories and Molecular Genetics Laboratory will use the test, the company said. It follows a September agreement in which the Mayo Foundation purchased the Tag-It P4502D6 test developed by Tm Bioscience.
