Applied Biosystems of Foster City, Calif., last week announced the release of Rat Assays-on-Demand, pre-formulated gene expression assays for rat researchers, which are available through the company website. The initial round of rat genomic assays is expected to comprise more than 3,500 gene-specific TaqMan probe and primer sets. More than 1,500 are currently available, with ongoing release of additional assays over the coming months, the company said. The initial release is designed around the well-characterized transcripts in the NCBI Reference Sequence project (RefSeq) database for rat genes. The products are available in two different formats — pre-formulated assays in a single, 2D-barcoded tube, or assays that are custom —configured on the Applied Biosystems 7900HT Micro Fluidic Card. The single tubes include a human readable label and are contained within a 1D-barcoded 96-position rack to accommodate liquid-handling robotics and fit into auto- mated, high-throughput labs.


Schleicher & Schuell BioScience said it will introduce a new FAST Frame multi-slide plate. The product holds four, 16-pad FAST Slides and their multi-well incubation chambers for high-throughput processing of microarrays.


VizX Labs has released GeneSifter.Net version 2003.3, an update of the company’s web-based gene-expression analysis software that includes metabolic pathways diagrams and new statistical techniques.
