Affymetrix s GeneChip Scanner 3000 MegAllele System, MWG Biotech s E-Commerce System, Agencourt Bioscience s Isopure, and Applied Biosystems 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR System

Affymetrix will soon launch its GeneChip Scanner 3000 MegAllele System for custom and application-specific genotyping. The system is based on Molecular Inversion Probe technology developed by ParAllele Bioscience, and contains 3K, 5K, and 10K custom assays, 10K cSNP and 5K Mouse Fixed assay panels, as well as 3K, 5K, and 10K TrueTag arrays. The firm also announced that it would launch its Sugar Cane GeneChip array later this month as part of its GeneChip Consortia Program (see story in this issue for additional details - "Illumina Launches Assay for Analyzing Gene Expression in Paraffin-Embedded Samples").


MWG Biotech announced the US launch of the firm’s improved international e-commerce system, which links the ordering of oligonucleotides, siRNA, and sequencing services directly to production and billing.


Agencourt Bioscience has launched Isopure, a reagent for the purification of genomic DNA from buccal cells. The reagent is based on the firm’s Solid Phase Reversible Immobilization technology and expands the product line of magnetic bead-based kits to include isolation of genomic DNA. Isopure is available for both tube and 96-well microplate formats and can be automated for higher-throughput requirements.


Applied Biosystems has launched its 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR System, reducing real-time PCR runs to less than 40 minutes from two hours on the original 7500 system. The firm also announced an optional upgrade kit for owners of the original system to upgrade to the Fast configuration.
