Affymetrix announced this week the availability of mouse and rat expression microarrays. The GeneChip mouse expression set 430, and the rat expression set 230, each a two-chip product, are expected to ship by the end of the month. No pricing information was pro-vided. The mouse chip has 34,000 mouse genes among its 39,000 transcripts taken from public mouse genome databases. The rat chip has 28,000 substantiated genes among 30,200 transcripts taken from public rat genome databases. The company said data from the April 2002 draft mouse genome assembly, and the June 2002 draft rat genome assembly, were used to cross-check the accuracy of the information from the publicly available data, and the probe sets were mapped to recent builds of each genome. Each array, the company said, contains a replicate group of probe sets for 100 maintenance genes.
San Diego-based Nanogen last week announced the release of analyte-specific reagents for Factor V Leiden and Factor II Prothrombin gene mutations, and Assay ToolBox consumables for use with the NanoChip microarray platform.
