NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) - Shares in Affymetrix were down 6.5 percent, or $1.53, at $21.82 in mid-afternoon trading today after the company said yesterday it will cut prices on certain of its genotyping chips.
The company said it would reduce the price on its 500K SNP system to $250 and offer the two-chip system as a single array by the end of the year. While the company declined to say how much the system currently costs, it said a 1-million-SNP product, scheduled to be available in early 2007, is expected to sell for around $500.
