Werner Dubitzky, head of the bioinformatics research group at the University of Ulster at Coleraine, Northern Ireland, UK, has joined the science advisory board of GenoMed of St. Louis, the company said this week.


Björn Ekström has become CEO of Olink Bioscience, a Swedish startup focusing on protein analysis technology. Previously, Ekström was head of R&D at Pyrosequencing. He also held several positions within R&D at Amersham Biosciences and Pharmacia Biotech.


Midwest BioResearch, which provides outsourced drug disposition and toxicology services, has appointed Charles Jeuell as its vice president of analytical operations and Anna Koostra as a senior-level research scientist in the company’s protein bioanalysis group, the company said last week.


Dario Eklund joins Organogenesis as its new vice president of biosurgery and aesthetic medicine. Eklund joins Organogenesis from Aventis where he was country manager for Switzerland. Eklund has also held senior management positions at Novartis Pharma as director of operations in southeast Europe and Israel, commercial director for biotech, and later head of marketing and sales in tissue engineering for markets outside the United States.


Blaine Bowman and Richard Freyberg III join the board of directors of Emeryville, Calif.-based IO Informatics, the company said last week. Bowman is chairman of the board of directors of Dionex and also serves on the board of Molecular Devices. Freyberg is the former CIO of Schwab Capital Markets, and has held other senior technology positions at Schwab.


Richard Markham, former vice chairman of the management board and chief operating officer of Aventis, has joined Care Capital as a partner. The company focuses on later-stage pharmaceutical and biotechnology enterprises. Prior to joining Aventis, Markham served as president and chief operating officer of Merck.


Ian Lennox has joined the board of directors of Labopharm of Quebec, the company said this week. Lennox is a Director of KBSH Capital Management, chairman of the board of Stressgen Biotechnologies, and a director of Cedara Software. Previously, he was president and CEO, drug discovery and development and later, pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets, for MDS.


Steve Fodor, chairman and CEO of Affymetrix, will receive the 2005 ABRF Award from the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities at the February meeting in Savannah, Ga..


Non-profit group Creative Commons has tapped John Wilbanks to serve as executive director of Science Commons, a newly formed branch of the organization that will address copyright issues related to scientific data. Wilbanks is currently a W3C fellow at the Worldwide Web Consortium focusing on the semantic web for life sciences.


David Bellitt has become president of the new Atlanta-based Celliance division of Serologicals, the company said on Monday. He joined Serologicals in 2002.


Tim Germann has assumed the newly created position of vice president of sales and marketing for US Genomics, the company said. Previously he was the northeast sales manager for Affymetrix. Before that, he held sales or management positions at Stratagene, Genometrix, Incyte Genomics, and Molecular Devices.
