Waters Offering Acquity UPLC with Spark Holland SPE Technology

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Waters is offering its Acquity UPLC System with online solid phase extraction technology from Spark Holland under a deal announced today between the firms.

The Waters Acquity UPLC Online SPE Manager is based on a special version of Spark's online SPE technology and is available as an integrated Waters UPLC-mass spectrometer system or as an upgrade to installed Acquity systems under the deal.

Financial and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Combining our UPLC technology with Spark Holland's online SPE technology offers compelling benefits to high-throughput laboratories intent on producing the highest-quality test results, quickly and reproducibly for UPLC-MS analyses," Ian King, vice president of separations technologies for Waters, said in a statement. "Automating the process of sample preparation can help laboratories greatly improve turnaround times, reduce errors, and the control costs."

Rob van der Knaap, president of Spark Holland, added, "Coupling online SPE to UPLC efficiently, while maintaining the unique benefit of disposable SPE cartridges, is a major technological challenge that performs best in a completely integrated fashion. Integration of our online SPE technology with the Acquity UPLC System creates a superior platform for completely automated SPE-UPLC based analyses."

The two companies inked a co-marketing deal in 2007 to sell integrated systems combining Waters' mass specs with Holland's online SPE system.
