WaferGen Inks Distribution Deals in Japan and Italy

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – WaferGen Biosystems said today that it has signed distribution pacts in Italy and Japan for its SmartSlide Micro-Incubation System.

The Fremont, Calif.-based firm said that Euroclone will exclusively distribute the system in Italy, while Takeda Rika Kogyo has gained distribution rights in Japan.

The SmartSlide is an integrated fluid exchange micro-incubation system that works seamlessly with inverted microscopes, said WaferGen. The system is used by cell biologists and stem cell researchers to conduct complex time lapse imaging studies to characterize, differentiate, and proliferate cells, as well as grow cells in consistently optimal physiological conditions, according to the firm.

Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
