US Senate Awards $500,000 for Trout Genome Study

NEW YORK, Aug. 1 - The USSenate Appropriations Committee has awarded West Virginia$500,000 to map the trout genome, the Citizens Against Government Waste reported yesterday (see report here).

 

The funding was part of $11.6 million that West Virginiasenator Robert Byrd grabbed in pet projects for his state, mostly for agriculture and aquaculture projects. The NationalCenterfor Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture will collaborate with West VirginiaUniversityon the trout genome project, according to the report.
