Deadlines

October 5 – Abstract submission deadline for Plant and Animal Genome XVI conference in San Diego.

October 18 – Application deadline for the NIH grant, Genome-wide Association Studies in the Genes, Environment, and Health Initiative — Study Investigators (U01). The program goal is to conduct genome-wide association genotyping and/or replication studies for conditions of considerable public health importance.

October 18, 19 — A two-day short course on Statistical Learning and Data Mining by Stanford University's Trevor Hastie and Robert Tibshirani will be taking place at the Georgetown University Conference center.

October 22 – Application deadline for the NIH grant, NIGMS National Centers for Systems Biology (P50). National Institute of General Medical Sciences is promoting the establishment of National Centers for Systems Biology, focusing on bioinformatics and computational biology, molecular and cell biology, biophysics, and genetics and developmental biology, among others.

October 23 — Application deadline for the NIH grant, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Biology and Medicine (R01). The goal of this grant is to encourage the engineering of new nanotech methods to approach diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries.

November 10 — Application deadline for the NIH grant, Revolutionary Genome Sequencing Technologies — The $1000 Genome (SBIR [R43/R44]). This grant will fund small businesses that aim to develop new technologies to enable low-cost DNA sequencing.

November 10 — Application deadline for the Near-Term Technology Development for Genome Sequencing (STTR [R41/R42]) grant. The goal of this NIH grant is to fund small businesses that plan to develop new technologies to make genomic DNA sequencing less costly.

November 15 — Application deadline for the grant A Systems Approach to Salivary Gland Biology (R01). This NIH grant plans to promote systems biology research to inform and predict salivary gland function and dysfunction.
