Three Injured In Explosion at Pfizer s Groton R&D Campus

NEW YORK, June 25 - A large explosion blasted through Pfizer's research center in Groton, Conn., this morning, injuring three people and causing the evacuation of thousands.

The explosion came shortly after 8:20 a.m. Eastern time from a waste facility for the R&D campus, said Groton city police department officer Dale Grenstiner.

One seriously injured person was taken to the Bridgeport burn center, he said. Two others suffered minor injuries.

The fire had been put out by the end of the morning.

"We're now trying to sort out what happened," said Grenstiner.
