NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (GenomeWeb News) - The Laboratorio Central de Veterinaria in Madrid, Spain, will use Tecan's Freedom EVO* series of robotic workstations in its sheep research, Tecan said today.
Spain's reference laboratory for the scrapie genotyping in sheep will use the workstations to develop an automated, high throughput application to identify at-risk animals.
"New legislation requires all member states of the EU to establish a breeding program to improve scrapie resistance in sheep, and genotyping is a useful way to select animals for this," said Stephan Sidler, the head of the laboratory, in a statement.
Using Tecan's equipment will help the lab achieve "95 percent of results within two weeks," according to Sidler.
