Silicon Genetics Appoints COO

NEW YORK, May 10 – Silicon Genetics on Thursday named Saeid Akhtari senior vice president and chief operating officer, responsible for sales and marketing, business development, finance and human resources.

Akhtari was previously vice president of corporate marketing and strategic development at Pharsight. Before that, he was vice president of sales, marketing, and strategic planning at DoubleTwist.

"Saeid has held senior executive positions with several emerging life science informatics companies and we expect he will make significant contributions to our vision and strategic development," Andrew Conway, Silicon Genetics’ president and CEO, said in a statement.

Silicon Genetics said Akhtari would be filling a newly created position at the Redwood City, Calif.-based developer of bioinformatics software for the life sciences industry.
