Sequenom Shares Rise Sharply on Licensing Deal

Shares of Sequenom rose 23 percent for the five-day trading period ended Tuesday to lead all gainers in the BCW Index. The firm’s shares jumped 16 percent on Tuesday alone after the firm announced that it had licensed a next-generation sequencing technology from Harvard University (see Briefs).
 
The shares of only eight firms in the Index fell for the tracking period. Illumina led decliners with a 1.9 percent drop.
 
Overall, the Index gained 1.08 percent, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average ticked up .3 percent; the Nasdaq rose 1.2 percent; and the Nasdaq Biotech Index gained .6 percent for the week.
