Sequenom Shares Continue to Rise

For the third week in a row, Sequenom’s shares led all gainers in the BCW Index for the five-day trading period ended Tuesday. Sequenom’s stock gained 9.6 percent for the most recent week, following gains of 32 percent last week and 23 percent the week before.

Over the past couple of weeks Sequenom has in-licensed rights to a next-generation sequencing technology, launched a new assay design and validation service, and was mentioned Tuesday in an article on the influential investment website The Motley Fool noting stocks that are hot on Wall Street right now.

Illumina’s shares also rose close to 10 percent for the tracking period. The firm was mentioned in an article last week in The Wall Street Journal highlighting the emerging market for next-generation DNA sequencers.

Shares of only two firms in the Index, Millipore and Waters, declined in value over the past week, but just barely.

Overall, the Index closed up 2.9 percent. In comparison, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose .8 percent, the Nasdaq closed up 2.1 percent, and the Nasdaq Biotech Index gained 2.3 percent.
