Runkel Joins Affy as General Counsel, Strategic Dx Names VP of Business Development, and More

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) - Affymetrix has hired John Runkel to be executive VP and general counsel. Runkel formerly was senior VP of business development at Intuitive Surgical, a corporate secretary at VISX, and he was a managing partner for a law firm in San Francisco.

Deborah Day Barbara has been named VP of business development at Strategic Diagnostics. Day previously was VP of business development and licensing at Ore Pharmaceuticals and she also served as senior director of business and technology development for Johns Hopkins University. Barbara also was involved in sales for a decade at Amersham Life Sciences.

Genstruct has appointed Julian Ray to serve as VP of engineering, a role in which he will be responsible for managing the technology platform, customer platforms, and the company’s IT platform. Ray previously was chief technology officer and VP of engineering for TransDecisions, and Intergraph Corporation, and he was director of the Transportation Research Center at the University of Tennessee.

Sydney, Australia-based Biosceptre has named Paul Kelly to serve on the company’s board of directors. Kelly is a general partner and executive director at Andover Venture Partners, a life sciences investment company. He also was CEO of Medcenter Holdings and of Orchid Cellmark.
