Private Equity Firm MTS Health Buys Ohio's DNA Diagnostics Center

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Healthcare-focused private equity company MTS Health Investors said on Tuesday that it has purchased DNA Diagnostics Center, based in Fairfield, Ohio, for an undisclosed sum.

DDC offers a variety of DNA testing services in forensics, family relationships, and in veterinary genetics.

MTS, based in New York, said that it has tapped Ellen Moscovitz, who formerly worked at Laboratory Corporation of America’s DNA testing division, to take over as DDC’s CEO. Michael Baird will continue in his position as laboratory director at DDC.

MTS said that DDC has been involved in several high-profile DNA-centered cases, including a legal case that led to the exoneration of Robert McClendon after 18 years of incarceration, and the identification of Larry Birkhead as the biological father of celebrity Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter.

Financial terms of the agreement were not released.
