NEW YORK, Oct. 9 - Orchid BioSciences has tapped George Poste to be its new chairman. He replaces Dale Pfost, who remains as Orchid's president and CEO.

Poste, 58, is the former president of R&D and chief science and technology officer at SmithKline Beecham, and current CEO of Health Technology Networks. He has been a member of Orchid's board of directors since April 2000.
