In keeping with this issue’s brain research theme, Genome Technology went straight to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for grant information. We queried grants awarded by NINDS with the keywords “genome,” “proteome,” and “RNAi” to get a sense of how much of the pie is going toward systems biology-related research.

It’s no surprise that integrated biology is playing a major role in neuroscience, which is rapidly becoming a large-scale, team-oriented discipline. For the list below, we chose a sampling of grants that came up in our search to give you a good idea of how much money is going toward certain types of projects and research avenues.
