Deadlines

March 15
Abstract submission deadline for the European Molecular Biology Laboratory's Microtubules: Structure, Regulation, and Functions conference to be held in Heidelberg, Germany, in May.

March 19
Deadline to apply for the National Institutes of Health's Molecular Characterization of Salivary Gland Tumors grant to support basic and translational research on salivary gland tumors through studies of the application of systematic, comprehensive, and data-rich 'omics approaches to define the molecular signatures of salivary gland tumors. The grant also includes funding for the development of relevant mouse models to study the onset and progression of tumor pathogenesis, and preclinical testing of potential therapeutics.

March 21
Deadline to apply for NIH's Shared Instrumentation Grant Program to encourage NIH-supported investigators to purchase or upgrade a single item of expensive, specialized, commercially available instrumentation or an integrated system costing $100,000 or more, including confocal and electron microscopes, mass spectrometers, and DNA sequencers, among others.

March 26
Deadline to apply for the National Science Foundation's Assembling the Tree of Life grant for creative and innovative research that will resolve evolutionary relationships for large groups of organisms throughout the history of life, including projects in data acquisition, analysis, algorithm development, and dissemination in computational phylogenetics and phyloinformatics.

March 29
Deadline to apply for NIH's Tools to Enhance Studies of Glial Cell Development, Aging, Disease, and Repair grant for projects to provide researchers with new tools for manipulating and identifying glial cells based on their heterogeneity, developmental stage or functional state, and tools to allow for the investigation of glial function and processes.

April 2
Late-breaking abstract submission deadline for the American Society of Clinical Oncology's 2012 Annual Meeting to be held in Chicago in June.

April 2
Abstract submission deadline for Select Biosciences' Genomics Research 2012 conference to be held in Boston in April.

April 11
Deadline to apply for NIH's Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics program to introduce advanced undergraduates, recent graduates, and beginning graduate students to biostatistics to encourage them to pursue careers in the field.

May 7
Deadline to apply for NIH's Career Enhancement Award for Stem Cell Research to support investigators in obtaining the training and career development they need to use stem cells appropriately in their work.

May 15
Deadline to apply for NSF's Partnerships for International Research and Education grant to support high quality projects in which advances in research and education could not occur without international collaboration.

May 25
Deadline to apply for NIH's Centers of Excellence in Genomic Science grant to establish academic centers for advanced genome research focused on the development of novel technological or computational methods for the production or analysis of comprehensive datasets.

June 1
Abstract submission deadline for Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Mechanisms and Models of Cancer conference to be held in Cold Spring Harbor, NY, in August.

June 29
Abstract submission deadline for CSHL's Epigenetics and Chromatin conference to be held in Cold Spring Harbor in September.

July 27
Deadline to apply for NSF's Collections in Support of Biological Research grant to secure, improve, and organize biological collections that are significant to the research community, including living stocks, culture collections, preserved tissues, and DNA libraries.

July 27
Application deadline for NSF's Instrument Development for Biological Research grant to develop instrumentation that addresses demonstrated needs in biological research such as permitting new measurements or improving existing measurements.

August 2 Abstract submission deadline for EMBL's The Complex Life of mRNA conference to be held in Heidelberg in October.
