Luminex Shares Rise 12 Percent

Shares of Luminex rose 12 percent for the five-day trading week ended Tuesday to lead all gainers in the BCW Index. During the past week, the firm named a new COO and unveiled its next-generation multiplexing system at the American Association for Clinical Chemistry meeting (see article in this issue).
 
Sequenom and Cepheid also gained nearly 10 percent for the tracking period, and Caliper Life Sciences gained 8.3 percent. Cepheid reached a 52-week high on Tuesday of $16.39 before falling back to close at $16.01.
 
Third Wave Technologies led the four shares that declined for the week, falling 3.7 percent to close at $5.75 on Tuesday.
 
Overall, the Index rose 2.6 percent for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which eclipsed the 14,000 mark for the first time ever on Tuesday, was up 3.5 percent for the week. The Nasdaq rose 2.8 percent, and the Nasdaq Biotech Index gained 1.1 percent.
