Jim Manzi, Paul Meister, Heino von Prondzynski, Werner Brandt, V.W. Brinkerhoff, Deborah Smeltzer, Avril Hamilton, Krish Sakhamuru, James Pusey

Thermo Fisher Scientific has named Jim Manzi as its new non-executive chairman of the board. Manzi served as chairman of Thermo Electron for three years preceding last year’s merger with Fisher Scientific. He succeeds Paul Meister, who retired as chairman last month.
 

 
Qiagen said this week that Heino von Prondzynski and Werner Brandt have agreed to be nominated for election to Qiagen’s board of supervisory directors. They will stand for election at Qiagen’s annual general meeting on June 20.
 
Von Prondzynski retired in 2005 as CEO of Roche Diagnostics. He also has held executive positions at Chiron and Bayer.
 
Brandt joined SAP in 2001 as CFO and a member of the firm’s executive board. He previously served as a member of the executive board and CFO of Fresenius Medical Care. He also was a member of the management board and vice president of European operations of Baxter Deutschland from 1992 to 1999.
 
Brandt also agreed to be nominated for election as chairman of Qiagen’s audit committee.
 

 
Gene Logic has promoted V.W. Brinkerhoff to the post of senior vice president of administration. He will receive a $100,000 cash incentive bonus and a $250,000 executive cash incentive target for 2007.
 
Brinkerhoff joined Gene Logic in 2005 as senior vice president and general manager for its preclinical contract research business.
 
Prior to joining Gene Logic, he was group vice president for operations at Wilson Greatbatch Technologies. Earlier, he held senior management positions with Life Technologies, which was acquired by Invitrogen in 2000.
 

 
ExonHit Therapeutics has appointed Deborah Smeltzer to its supervisory board. Smeltzer is CFO and vice president of operations at Dynavax Technologies. She formerly was vice president and general manager of Applied Biosystems’ genetic-analysis business, and had been CFO and a vice president at Genset.
 

 
MWG Biotech has tapped Avril Hamilton for the post of UK and Ireland sales manager, and hired Krish Sakhamuru to be the key account salesperson. 
 
Before joining MWG, Hamilton was senior European territory manager at Cogenics and was in sales at PerkinElmer and Bio-Rad.
 
Sakhamuru was an account manager with Elsevier MDL and Informax.
 

 
MDS Pharma Services has hired James Pusey as vice president and general manager of its global clinical-development business.
 
Pusey formerly was president and CEO of OrthoLogic, executive vice president for neurology at Serono, and vice president of marketing and therapeutics area leader for AstraZeneca.
