NEW YORK, Nov 2 – InforMax said Thursday it has appointed Leroy Hood chairman of its scientific advisory board.
" Lee's track record in biotechnology, and his many scientific and technological accomplishments, are well-known," Alex Titomirov, president and CEO of InforMax, said in a statement.
" We are very pleased that he has agreed to chair the InforMax Scientific Advisory Board and look forward to benefiting from his insights and experience in the years ahead,” Titomirov added.
Hood is considered a leader in the move to apply computer technology to scientific research.
Last year Hood founded the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, which will focus on advancing biology as an information science. He has an M.D. from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the California Institute of Technology.
He is also a scientific advisor to other companies, including Lynx, Illumina, Immunex, People Genetics, Orchid BioSciences, and RealTime Health, a dotcom for predictive medicine that is chaired by InforMax’s CEO.
