Illumina Stock Takes a Hit on Adverse Jury Decision

Shares in Illumina closed down 7.5 percent for the week ended Tuesday, due mostly to a jury’s finding earlier this week that the firm had infringed five Affymetrix patents (see related article). The company led all decliners in a down week for the BCW Index and US stocks, in general, which dropped sharply on Tuesday.

Cepheid led the nine stocks that gained ground for the five-day trading period, rising 6.1 percent for the week. Third Wave Technologies gained 4.5 percent for the week.

Overall, the Index fell 1.1 percent, matching the decline in the Dow Jones Industrial Average for the same period. The Nasdaq lost 1.4 percent for the week, and the Nasdaq Biotech Index dropped 1.9 percent.
