GTG to Sell MMI s Animal Breeds Tests in Australia

NEW YORK, Feb. 27 (GenomeWeb News) - Genetic Technologies and MetaMorphix have entered a strategic alliance that will include jointly marketing and distributing MMI's genetic tests for livestock and pets in Australia and New Zealand, Gene Technologies said today.

In a statement, GTG singled out MMI's genetic polling of cattle and breed-confirmation of dogs as programs to be launched in Australia and New Zealand. MMI has developed tests distinguishing between 35 different purebred dogs, and plans tests for more than 55 more.

The Melbourne, Australia-based genomics firm said in addition to joint commercialization of these programs, the alliance would consider "ways to optimize the geographic advantage" of the two companies' labs in Melbourne and Davis, Ca., respectively.

Financial details were not released.
