Gerrit van den Dool, David Smoller, Shaf Yousaf, Richard Lerner

Sigma-Aldrich has promoted Gerrit van den Dool to the newly created position of vice president of sales and David Smoller to president of the company's research biotech business unit.
Van den Dool joined Sigma-Aldrich in 1999 as the head of European research sales. Prior to joining the firm, he worked in sales positions at Amersham-Pharmacia and Molecular Dynamics.
Smoller joined Sigma-Aldrich as vice president of research and development in 2004 after founding and selling two startups: Genome Systems and ProteoPlex.
Shaf Yousaf, the previous president of the research biotech business unit, has left the company, Sigma said.

Sequenom has elected Richard Lerner, president of the Scripps Research Institute, to its board of directors. Lerner is also the Lita Annenberg Hazen Professor of Immunochemistry, the Cecil H. and Ida M. Green Chair in Chemistry, and a member of the Skaggs Institute for Chemical Biology at Scripps and serves on the boards of Kraft Foods and Opko Health.
