March 28 GRANT DEADLINE. Due date for NSF "Assembling the Tree of Life" program opportunity, the goal of which is to establish phylogeny for 1.7 million species. NSF expects to dole out $14 million in FY 2005 and $15 million in FY 2006.

March 30 CONFERENCE.  The 46th annual Drosophila Research Conference, a five-day event sponsored by the Genetics Society of America, will be held in San Diego.
