GeneProt Names Former Abbott Labs Exec Chairman of the Board

NEW YORK, Feb 20 - GeneProt, a proteomics startup based in Geneva, Switzerland, has appointed pharmaceutical executive Robert Parkinson to the post of chairman of the board of directors, the company said Tuesday.

Parkinson most recently served as president and chief operating officer of Abbott Laboratories, in Abbott Park, Ill., where he worked from 1976 until his retirement in January of this year. At Abbott, Parkinson held various executive positions, including head of the US-based Ross Laboratories division.

As chairman of the board of directors, Parkinson will devote his time to strategic and business development initiatives, GeneProt said in a statement.

"Bob is bringing the dynamism, intellect, and global experience which will enable the transition of GeneProt from an early stage company to a leading proteomics firm," said Cedric Loiret-Bernal, GeneProt's CEO.

GeneProt hopes to collect proteomic data via mass spectrometric analysis of biological fluids and tissues and sell the information to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. The scientific advisory board includes several prominent proteomic researchers and chemists, including Denis Hochstrasser, a proteomics researcher at the University of Geneva.
