Geneology Testing Firm Adopts Tecan Sample-Management Systems

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Tecan said last week that geneology testing firm Family Tree DNA has adopted its sample-management technology.

Under the terms of the agreement, Family Tree DNA is using a Tecan Freedom EVO liquid-handling workstation and the Small-Size Store sample-storage system from Tecan’s REMP subsidiary.

Family Tree, which offers around 150 different genetic tests to establish relatedness of DNA samples, evaluated several sample management systems, and chose the REMP SSS technology because it was the most efficient, Thomas Krahn, lab manager of the company’s Genomics Research Center, said in a statement.

The company is using the Freedom EVO workstation to automate DNA extraction and storage preparation and is storing purified samples in the SSS.

Financial terms of the agreement were not provided.
