Applied Biosystems President Cathy Burzik stepped down a little more than two years after being tapped to run the business after Mike Hunkapiller retired. She left to take over as CEO of Kinetic Concepts, a San Antonio-based company specializing in advanced wound care and therapeutic surfaces (see feature article).

Applera also said in an 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that its board of directors were reelected at the annual meeting of stockholders held last week. White chairs the board. The others directors are Robert Hayes, Arnold Levine, William Longfield, Theodore Martin, Carolyn Slayman, Orin Smith, and James Tobin.
 
Each director was granted 2,600 shares of ABI common stock and 1,000 shares of Celera Genomics stock. The directors were also granted stock options for 9,000 shares of ABI’s stock and 3,600 shares of Celera’s stock. The options become exercisable in four equal annual installments commencing Oct. 19, 2007, and have a term of 10 years. The exercise price for the ABI stock is $33.74 per share, while the exercise price for the Celera stock is $14.50 per share.
 

 
Toxicogenomics company Iconix Biosciences, formerly Iconix Pharmaceuticals, has named Heiner Dreismann to its board of directors.
 
Dreismann previously was president and CEO of Roche Molecular Systems
 
The company also announced it has changed its name to reflect its emphasis on toxicogenomics products.
 
Last month ChondroGene named Dreismann to its board. ChondroGene changed its name to GeneNews earlier this week.
