Bruker Shares Rise Again on Upgrade

Shares in Bruker BioSciences rose more than 9 percent this past week following an upgrade by investment bank UBS on its stock from 'neutral' to 'buy.' The firm's shares gained 7.8 percent the previous week on news that it would acquire affiliated company Bruker Optics (see BioCommerce Week 4/19/2006). PerkinElmer and Stratagene led decliners for the tracking period, falling 3.72 percent and 3.21 percent, respectively.

For the five-day trading period ended Tuesday, the Index closed up .25 percent, beating the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which rose .1 percent; the Nasdaq, which declined 1.1 percent; and the Nasdaq Biotech Index, which fell 2.6 percent.
