BCW Index Rises 3 Percent to Hit New High

PerkinElmer shares gained 9 percent to lead 13 companies whose share prices rose during the five-day period tracked by the BioCommerce Week Index.

The Index, which was launched on Sept. 8, reached a new high with an index price of $35.54 eclipsing the previous high of $35.40 set on Dec. 14.

Becton Dickinson shares gained 6 percent while Waters and Bio-Rad moved up 5 percent. Shares of Molecular Devices and Stratagene were down a fraction as the only companies whose shares fell on the week.

Taken together, the Index outperformed the major indices: The Dow Jones finished the five-day period up a half percent; the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq improved approximately 1.5 percent; while the Amex biotech index was up 2 percent and the Amex pharma index dropped approximately 1.5 percent.
