BioCommerce Week’s Index to the Diversified Molecular Biology Tools Companies

General Electric started off the fall financial reporting season on Friday with a 15 percent increase in overall revenues. But, GE shares fell a fraction of a percent for the weekly period ending Tuesday. The conglomerate was one of 12 companies whose shares fell among the 15 companies tracked by the BioCommerce Week index.

Bio-Rad improved 9.7 percent, to $57.72 from $52.60, while Molecular Devices was up 1.3 percent, and PerkinElmer ended up a fraction as the Index dropped in value for the second time in the last three weeks.

Overall, the Index fell a fraction of a percent led by Harvard Bio’s 6-percent dip, with its stock closing at $4.21 Tuesday, down from $4.48 last week. Agilent entered a new collaboration and its stock price fell 5.5 percent to $21.92 from $23.21.

Major market indicators — the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq — all finished down approximately 1 percent for the five-day period, while the Amex biotech and pharma indices closed down approximately 4 percent.
