BCW Index Falls for Fifth Straight Week

The BCW Index, which tracks the stock movement of 15 multi-platform molecular biology tool companies, dropped slightly for the fifth week in a row. Over the five-day trading period ended Tuesday, the Index declined .46 percent to close at $34.27.

Agilent and Beckman Coulter led the losers this past week, dropping 4.82 percent and 4.67 percent, respectively. Invitrogen posted the biggest gains by far, rising 5.52 percent for the week.

In comparison, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.8 percent and the Nasdaq declined 1 percent for the tracking period. The Nasdaq Biotech Index, however, edged up .2 percent.
